Living Language Seminar (ÉLŐ NYELVEK SZEMINÁRIUMA) was founded in 1948/49. It was the first language school to open in Budapest after the Second World War and for many years English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Hungarian languages could be learnt only in our school. We have three locations and our centre is at 1053. Budapest. Fejér György u. 8-10. This is where we conduct enrolment, examinations and we also hold classes here.
We specialize in teaching foreign languages and during the past decades our school developed many practices which have also been introduced by other schools. Until the 1980s we had been the only independent (not state owned) enterprise in this field. Despite the current lively competition, we are sure we have remained in the forefront of language teaching in Budapest. Being the oldest institution of its kind here, we are, naturally, well prepared to teach these languages. We are experienced and have extensive subject matter, which is constantly monitored and refreshed.

TOEFL iBT^®

We started preparing students for TOEFL iBT^® examinations in the early 80s. Students can enroll and learn in small groups or can take one to one lessons. TOEFL iBT^® examination consists of four tests: reading, listening comprehension, speaking and writing. Consequently our courses mainly focus on these fields but also focus on the grammatical knowledge. Our cooperating partner is the Fulbright Foundation. One lesson takes 45 minutes. The preparatory courses are usually held in four lessons per week and a course is usually eight weeks long but one can also choose an intensified way to prepare. Apart from the course the candidate is offered to do some supplemental tests too. A candidate who wishes to take a TOEFL iBT^® test can develop skills by reading much and mainly by choosing articles on different scientific, popular scientific topics. It is also worth to improve the listening comprehension skills. One can do a lot for a successful examination outside the classroom too. A candidate will inevitably deal with the next tasks:

1. Increase vocabulary which fits the examination. At the course you will have the chance to do it but every candidate is recommended to read much.
2. Besides reading many books, learn how to collect information out of the text. Improving reading comprehension skills at the course will help a lot.
3. Writing skill can be developed on many ways. Writing essays is an essential part of the TOEFL iBT^® test. It can be an integrated task when focusing on one kind of skill the candidate also uses other basic skills to do the task.
4. Listening comprehension will also be developed at the course but as it was mentioned above the candidate may also use the internet on his/her own to make progress.
5. Speaking is a basic skill. It must be developed and one can do it on many ways. At the TOEFL iBT^® test a mere chatting ability, however, will not be enough.
6. Timing is an important factor at the examination. One may be able to do the test but to do it during a limited time is the challenge. The course will focus on this.
7. The knowledge of the user's grammar is important. As all the examinations of high standards, TOEFL iBT^® examination also requires more than the knowledge of the structural grammar. The lack of using the proper form and composition may influence the number of the acquired points. The course will focus on this important field too.

• Our institute has gained the title of Accredited Institute for quality and all our language programs have been accredited and recognized by the appropriate state institutions.
• Our school is an examination centre accredited and recognized by the state.
• In 2000 we became a state accredited language examination place of the locally most well-known examination in five languages: English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish.
• We introduced and spread (Pitman) examinations owned by City and Guilds in Hungary (1990) on five levels and Business English examinations on three levels.
• We prepare students for Origó, Cambridge, TOEFL, BE exams, Zdf, ZMP, DELE, DELF, DALF examinations.
• Courses: consecutive courses during the academic year, summer-, intensive-, in company- courses, and one to one. Annually thousands of students, hundreds of classes weekly. We limit the number of students in a group: micro, mini, midi and standard groups. There are nine levels and special examination levels and skills courses available.
• ENGLISH: Subject matter: own series of books in English - also considering learning problems of the Hungarians - in the form of six books and supplementary books. Own development and publication of Hungarian-English, English-Hungarian Dictionary. We also use a wide choice of books published by OUP, CUP, Longman, etc.
• We have foreign relations in England, USA, Australia, France, Italy, and Spain: - universities, language schools, associate schools. We have been sending students abroad since 1989.
• A TRANSLATIONS BUREAU is at your disposal in our centre.

 We have been forwarding the cause of ETS exams since the seventies last century, and when it became possible we did it with the contribution of our expert who was also trained by ETS Propell™. Élő Nyelvek Szemináriuma has been in business since 1949 and on the course of its history it has dealt with mostly all the major language examinations of the world. It became an accredited place of examination during the decades. We did not apply for the title of TOEFL® examination place because we first of all wished to prepare for exams and not run exams. We highly appreciate if these two functioning are separated. We held contacts with an ETS institution in the Netherlands for many decades when TOEFL® exam was not yet known in Hungary and our country belonged to a different political block.
